Publishing your app: go live, share, pause, versions
Publishing gives your app a permanent address. A build never changes the live app: your visitors see the published version until you publish again. Publishing uses no credits.
1. Publish
- Build your app at least once.
- Click “Publish” at the top of the workspace, then “Publish your app”.
- Your app is live at its permanent Makasi address. Copy the link or open the app from the same window.
Before publishing, Makasi reminds you of the keys of your app’s services that are still missing, and asks you to check that they are production values.
2. Preview and live app
Building updates your preview. Your live app keeps the previous version until you click “Publish changes”: a dot tells you when changes are not published yet.
Good to know: the preview and the live app share the same database. What a build adds to it stays compatible with your live app. Data added or changed while you work on the preview is also visible in the live app.
3. Share
The “Share” section of the publish window posts your link to X, LinkedIn, WhatsApp, Reddit or Facebook. You can also give your app an address in your own name.
4. Pause the app
In Manage › Publish & Share, “Pause app” takes your app offline for visitors: they see a pause page, with a message you can write (“We’ll be back soon…”). Your code and data are untouched.
“Resume” brings the app back exactly as it was. When you publish while paused, “Reactivate when publishing” (ticked by default) puts it back online at the same time.
5. Versions
Your last published versions are listed under “Published versions”. “Restore” puts the code of a version back online; your data is never touched.
A version published before the last change to your database structure is marked “no longer restorable”: its code would no longer match your data.
Restoring a version uses no credits.
6. On the free plan
A published app shows a small “Built with Makasi” badge; it disappears as soon as you move to a paid plan, without rebuilding.
A published app on the free plan goes to sleep after a period of inactivity: its visitors see a page that lets them wake it up. On paid plans, the app stays online permanently.
