Connect pawaPay (mobile money)
Collect mobile money payments (M-Pesa, Orange Money, Airtel Money, MTN and more) with pawaPay. Makasi provides the payment: your customer is sent to the pawaPay payment page, picks their operator and confirms on their phone. You paste your API token, choose Test or Production in Makasi, and set one address in pawaPay.
1. Before you start
Create a pawaPay account and start with the Sandbox: it simulates the operators, so you can test without real money.
Ask for mobile money in the chat (the “Add to my app” button in Manage › Integrations prepares the request there). It goes into your app’s plan and is installed during the build, after your GO; it then stays in your app. You can paste your token afterwards — until then, your customers see “payment not set up yet”. Online payments run on your app’s server, which requires a paid plan.
2. Paste your API token
- In the pawaPay dashboard, open the API tokens page and create a token. Use the sandbox dashboard while you test.
- Copy the token.
- In Makasi, open Manage › Integrations › Mobile money and paste it under “Paste your keys”.
Never paste your token into the chat.
3. Choose Test or Production
In the same window, the “Mode” setting tells your app which pawaPay to use: Test (sandbox, no real money) or Production (real payments).
The token must come from the same place: a sandbox token with Test, a production token with Production.
4. Set the confirmation address in pawaPay
Makasi shows your app’s confirmation address in Manage › Integrations › Mobile money (“Copy this address into pawaPay”), with a “Copy” button. It never changes.
- In the pawaPay dashboard, open the callback URLs settings.
- Click Edit and paste the address in the Checkouts field.
- Click Save Changes. Do it in the sandbox dashboard and again in the production dashboard.
If you skip this step, payments still work: your app checks the status with pawaPay when the customer comes back. If the customer closes the page before coming back, Makasi still picks up the payment by checking it with pawaPay a few minutes later; the address lets it be confirmed right away.
5. Going live
Paste your production token, switch Mode to Production, and set the confirmation address in the production dashboard.
Currencies are local (CDF, XOF, XAF, KES…). The amount is set by your app on its server, never by the customer’s browser.
6. Common problems
The payment stays pending: the customer has not confirmed on their phone yet. The payment page expires after 30 minutes.
Works in Test, fails in Production: the token and the Mode do not match.
An operator is missing from the payment page: it is not enabled for your country or account at pawaPay.
